Digit-al Dozen Mythical Creatures Day 1 (Or, how NOT to stamp on foils)

(Press samples ahead!)

Hello!

It's Digit-al Dozen time again, and I'm over-the-moon stoked about this theme: Mythical Creatures! I had so many ideas I wanted to do for this one, I had a hard time narrowing them down. I decided to start off with a no-brainer: Unicorns!

I figured this was a great time to do something I've wanted to play around with for a while--full nail foils. I chose a rainbow foil and cut it so there would be a vertical gradient on each nail. Then I stamped images from UberChic Beauty's Unicorn Love (click here for my review of the plate) over them:

UberChic Beauty Unicorn Love over nail foils

I stamped with Messy Mansion Carbon, Sterling, and Chalk, and filled in the unicorn hair and belly with Sally Hansen Heather Hustle, and the horns with Hit The Bottle Polish Holo There Beautiful.

Now, you probably know that when you use nail foils, you should use a water-based topcoat or base coat over them to preserve the foil--you can use your preferred topcoat on top of that for preservation, etc. You should also do this before you do any stamping onto the foils or try to put decals onto the foils. Here's what it looks like if you forget that step like I did:

Yeah. The color from the foil bleeds up into your stamping polish, and somehow manages to melt the polish, too. Now, if I'd just done that with the background stars, that might have been kinda cool--but what it did to the rest of the stamping most certainly was not. But that's okay--it allowed me to make some other improvements to the design when I redid it. :)

I also have to admit, using nail foils to cover your entire nail on every finger is a bit of a pain, especially when it comes time to remove--I don't think I'll do more than an accent nail again.

What do you think? Yay or nay on full-nail foils?

Thanks for stopping by, and don't forget to check out the other ladies' manicures, linked below! :)

NOTD: Mystical Mardi Gras (featuring MoYou London Mandala 14)

(Press samples ahead!)

Hello!

Today I want to share the mani I wore on Mardi Gras--I didn't get a chance to blog it before, but I think it's a fun look not just for Mardi Gras, so figured I'd go ahead and share it after. :)

I used images from MoYou London Mandala 14, which I adore:

MoYou London Mandala 14

I started with a base of Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer's My Precious and Green's Alexandrite With Me, for the purple and green part of the trio of Mardi Gras colors. Then I stamped my images with Messy Mansion Soft Gold for the third color of the trio, and then stamped again with Carbon:

MoYou London Mandala 14 over Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer's My Precious and Green's Alexandrite With Me

MoYou London Mandala 14 over Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer's My Precious and Green's Alexandrite With Me

I love how the flakes and the glitters in these two polishes make such a gorgeous background, and I love how the stamping give a wrought-iron Anne-Rice sort of mystical look.

What do you think, does it put you in the mood to let the good times roll?

Hugs,
M. xoxo

Ilove Ikat...(Featuring Dixie Plates Love 2018)

(Press samples and affiliate links ahead!)

Hello!

Happy Valentine's Day! Today I have another quick Valentine NOTD to share, this one featuring Dixie Plates Love 2018

I started with a base of Sally Hansen Get Mod, and then stamped my images with Messy Mansion Red-y Or Not. I then did a tiny bit of ikat over the center of the hearts with Sally Hansen Racing Rose and Watermelon Wizz:

I love the simplicity of this, and how the pink adds just a little dash of color to break up the mani.

Hope you're having a wonderful day celebrating all the love in your life!

(Press samples ahead!)

Hello!

Today I have another Valentine's Day mani, this one featuring UberChic Beauty's Love & Marriage 04 and plate 23-03:

I started with a gradient I made blending Sally Hansen Racing rose and Watermelon Wizz. Then I stamped the scribble image from UCB 23-03 using Messy Mansion Chalk, and then the hearts image from Love & Marriage 04 with Messy Mansion Red-y Or Not:

Some bunny loves you...

(Press samples ahead!)

Hello!

Today I have a fun NOTD to show you featuring UberChic Beauty's Love and Marriage 04 plate, and their Got Chevron? plate:

I started with a base of Girly Bits Hot Stuff, and then stamped my Got Chevron? image with Kaleidoscope st-04 Pink. I did some reversed stamping for my cupids and my bunnies using Messy Mansion Carbon, Kaleidoscope st-02 White, and Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Champagne Supernova. Here's how it came out:

How adorable are those cupids and those bunnies!!! This was the last reversed stamping I did before using my Orly Bonder trick, and you can see on cupid's bow how it didn't go on quite right! I love that bonder trick sooooo hard...:)

Hugs,
M.

NOTD: Buffalo Checks!

(Press samples ahead!)

Hello!

Today I have a quick NOTD to show you of some Buffalo checks I did using the layering images from UberChic Beauty 23-02...I started with a base of Spellbound Nails Durmstrang, and then stamped with Messy Mansion Chalk and Carbon:

What do you think? I wasn't sure I'd like it all that much more than regular checks, but being able to add in that additional color really does make a difference! I'll definitely be returning to this image again. :)

Dixie Plates Mega Mani Mix 01!

(Press samples and affiliate links ahead!)

Hello!

Today we're gonna take a look at a new plate from Dixie Plates, her Mega Mani 01 plate, with three manis I did using the plate. Here's the video review I did of the plate:

And here's the still shot:

Dixie Plates Mega Mani Mix 01

This plate has very generous images at 2.1x 2.5 cm, great for longer nails (which just rubs in the fact that I just broke a ton of nails because I switched my basecoat--noooooooo), and gives you a variety of looks. Remember that that because the images are so big, you'll be picking up only a section of them--that means you can get a variety of looks from within the same image depending on where you look, so pull out your little nail guide and play around. :)

The stamping quality is top-notch as always:

I did these with my clear stamper and Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Midnight Flight.

For my first mani, I started with a base of Girly Bits Shake What Ya Mama Gave Ya, then stamped using Kaleidoscope White. To pop the design, I added reddish-brown diamond glitters. Here's how it came out:

I love how the design lets the gorgeous duochrome holo shine through, and i love how the diamond glitters gives it a little bit of contrast to accent the different colors of light thrown by the holo. Easy mani that looks lush!

For my next mani, I went a little darker...I started with a base of The Lady Varnishes Harpy, and then stamped over with Hit The Bottle Polishes Copper-Haired Girl (also available at Beautometry):

I love the rich colors, and love that the negative space in the design lets the holo sparkle on through. Something about this feels like it comes from a sci-fi movie, something a beautiful alien race would wear from some exotically named planet. Or maybe an ancient civilization...

For my third mani, I wanted to play with the lace images. Whenever I see lace, I want to do a 'naked' lace look, so I picked two lace images that had a similar mesh pattern, and mixed and matched. I started with a base of clear polish with gold glitter, Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer's Four-Star Daydream, and then stamped with Kaleidoscope White. I did reversed stamping for my accent nails, and filled in the flower with Spellbound Nails In Just 7 Days. Here's how it came out:

Dixie Plates Mega Mani Mix 01 over Blue-Eyed Girl Lacquer Four-Star Daydream

I adore this look and this technique, so I made a tutorial if you want to replicate it:

So what do you think? Do you have a favorite of the three? I think together they show what a wide range of looks you can get from this plate, and even more so if you have longer nails.
